About IMA®, the CMA®, CSCA® and FMAA™ Programs

IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), the association of accountants and financial professionals in business, focuses on advancing the management accounting profession. Globally, IMA supports the profession through the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant), CSCA® (Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis), and FMAA ™ (Financial & Managerial Accounting Associate) programs, continuing education, research, networking, and advocacy of the highest ethical business practices.

The CMA is a globally recognized certification program for management accountants and financial professionals. The two-part exam covers 12 critical practice areas, including financial planning, analysis, control, and decision support. IMA also offers the CSCA, a strategy certification for accounting and finance professionals who have earned the CMA or select other accounting and finance certifications. You can enhance your skillset and cross-functional abilities with the CSCA program’s focus on strategic planning, competitive analysis, strategy implementation, performance evaluation, and decision making. The one-part, three-hour exam includes 60 multiple choice questions and one case study essay. Testing windows are offered in March and September. In addition, IMA offers the FMAA, a foundational certification in accounting and finance. The FMAA aligns with the knowledge, skills, and abilities that early career business professionals use on the job today—general accounting and financial management, financial statement preparation and analysis, planning and budgeting, cost management and performance metrics, and professional ethics. The one-part, two-hour exam includes 80 multiple-choice questions. 

Testing windows in 2024 are offered in March, June, and September for the English FMAA. For the Chinese FMAA, there are one-day testing windows on May 26 and December 8. For the Arabic FMAA, the testing window is the week of September 8-16.

Rescheduling/Cancellation Fee - Prometric will charge a $50 fee to candidates who reschedule/cancel appointments within 3 to 30 days of the original test date. Before rescheduling/cancelling an appointment within the same testing window, please note Prometric will charge a $50 fee to individuals who reschedule/cancel their appointments within 72 hours to 29 days of before the original test date.

If you reschedule or cancel an appointment within less than 30 days of before your appointment date you will be required to pay a rescheduling fee to Prometric. This fee cannot be waived.

You cannot reschedule or cancel your appointment with Prometric less than 72 hours before your scheduled appointment. If you cancel less than less than 72 hours days before your appointment date, you will forfeit your exam fee and will need to purchase a new exam registration. This fee cannot be waived.

Cancelling your appointment with Prometric does not generate a refund or an automatic approved test window change. It only allows you to have the possibility to reschedule the appointment for a different date in the same testing window.

Appointments cannot be rescheduled to another testing window.

IMPORTANT:  The Chinese FMAA exam has different reschedule and cancellation policies than the English language exam.
