BASIC Exam Information
IMPORTANT EXAM INFORMATION FOR SPANISH, VIETNAMESE and KOREAN TEST TAKERS: You will have a small number of questions throughout the exam that are presented in English. The opening and closing display screens and the score report are also in English.
What information will Prometric provide?
After scheduling your exam with Prometric, you will receive an appointment confirmation e-mail. If you need to view your appointment confirmation, you may review the confirmation at www.prometric.com.
What if I am unable to take my exam?
Any candidate who registers for an exam is expected to keep your exam appointment. Any reschedules must be made at least 5 business days prior to your original appointment date.
What if my name changes before the exam?
PCS should be notified at least two weeks prior to the exam date of any name changes so there are no issues during the check-in process. The first and last name must match identically to the identification presented at the check-in process.
When am I expected to report to the Testing Center?
Plan to arrive at the testing center 30 minutes prior to the scheduled exam session. If you are late for your scheduled exam, you will not be permitted to take the exam and will forfeit all fees paid to PCS.
What are the Testing Centers like?
Prometric test centers are located in Class B office space in order to provide a noise-free testing experience. The layout of each Prometric test center is similar and includes a check-in area, a waiting area, work areas for the center administrators, lockers for storage of personal belongings, and a testing room housing 4 to 18 computer workstations.
What test-taking procedures can I expect?When you arrive at the test center, you will need to present two forms of identification
- Primary ID: A current (non-expired) government-issued form of identification with a recent photograph of you and your signature. A valid driver’s license, passport, or state identification card is acceptable.
- Secondary ID: A current (non-expired) form of identification with your signature. A credit card, University or College ID is acceptable.
- Social security card and birth certificate are NOT acceptable.
You will be asked to review a copy of the Prometric Candidate Rules. You will be asked to store your personal belongings in a locker provided. You will receive a key for the locker in which to secure your belongings. Prior to the beginning of the exam, you will go through a check-in process where your identification will be verified and the examination for which you are testing confirmed. As part of the check-in process each person is required to demonstrate that all pockets are empty. Eye glasses will be inspected. Each person is wanded to confirm the absence of any electronic devices. When it is time to start the exam, you will be admitted into the testing room by signing in. What type of regulations does the test center enforce?
To ensure that all candidates are tested under equally favorable conditions, the following regulations and procedures are observed at each test center:
- Personal items, such as watches, jewelry (other than engagement/wedding rings and small stub earrings), wallets, purses, hats, bags, coats, etc., are not allowed in the testing room. You must store all items in a locker. The test center is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced personal items.
- Ear plugs and/or noise reduction headphones can be provided if requested.
- Electronic devices, including cellular phones and hand-held computers/personal digital assistants (PDAs), and/or study guides, exam notes, textbooks, etc., are not permitted and must be left at home or in your car or secured in the locker provided.
- The administrator will log you in to your assigned workstation, verify that you are taking the intended exam, and start the exam. Please remain in your assigned seat. Eating, drinking, smoking, or making noise that create a disturbance for other candidates is prohibited during the exam.
- To ensure a high level of security throughout your testing experience, you will be monitored at all times. Both audio and video will be recorded.
- To request an unscheduled break during the exam, raise your hand to get the administrator’s attention. The administrator will set your testing workstation to the break mode. In this case, the exam clock will not stop while you are away and test time will continue.
- You must leave the testing room for any unscheduled breaks. You will have your identification checked when you leave the testing room and again before you re-enter the testing room.
- You are not allowed to leave the building for any reason during an unscheduled break.
- When taking an unscheduled break, you are permitted to access personal items that you stored in the locker only if necessary - for example, if you need to take medication at a specific time. During an unscheduled break you may NOT access cellular phones, electronic devices, exam notes, study guides, and/or any other exam related materials. Candidates observed engaging in these behaviors will be dismissed immediately from the test.
- You may not remove copies of exam questions from the testing center and you may not share the questions or answers seen in your exam with other candidates.
