The CCRA (Certified Catastrophe Risk Analyst) exam in an integral part of the Moody’s RMS CCRA Training Program. This exam allows candidates to demonstrate their knowledge of the core concepts and learning objectives from the training courses they have completed, and a passing score entitles candidates to the CCRA designation.

Moody’s RMS has partnered with Prometric to provide the CCRA exam at testing centers worldwide. To be eligible, candidates must complete the Moody’s RMS CCRA Training Program, including all self-study courses and the four-day onsite training. Candidates who meet these requirements will receive a CCRA exam eligibility ID, which is required to register for the exam.

The CCRA exam will be offered multiple times annually. The exam will be offered on the following dates in 2024. Registration information will be sent to eligible candidates prior to each registration window.

  • April 18 & 19, 2024
  • July 18, 2024
  • October 24, 2024

Please plan to be at the testing center for approximately 5 hours total. The exam itself is 4 hours: 2.5 hours for the essay section and 1.5 hours for the multiple-choice section. There will be an optional 15-minute break between those two test sections. Candidates will be tested on three of the six peril courses during the exam. During the multiple choice exam, candidates will select the three perils to be included in their exam. Peril-specific questions are included in the multiple-choice section of the exam only.

There is no fee for candidates who are taking the CCRA exam for the first time. All candidates who are retaking the exam are required to pay a $250 retake fee at the time of registration.

Exam Format

The CCRA exam will be in two parts: essay questions and multiple-choice questions. You must receive a passing mark in both sections to be awarded the CCRA designation. However, if you pass one of the two sections, retesting is only necessary for the section which you did not pass.

Essay Questions: The essay portion of the exam will include questions from both the insurer perspective and the reinsurer perspective. Participants will need to answer all questions in no more than 2.5 hours, at which time your exam will automatically save and submit. Microsoft Excel spreadsheets may be provided for specific questions during the exam. The essay section will be worth 60 points, with 30 points pertaining to the insurer perspective and 30 points to the reinsurer perspective.

Multiple-Choice Questions: This section includes 60 questions that will cover content from all areas of knowledge from the CCRA Training Program, including documents, presentation, self-assessment, and exercise materials. Participants will need to complete all questions within 1.5 hours, at which time your exam will automatically save and submit. Each question will be worth 1 point for a total of 60 points.

You will have access to an online basic calculator during the exam. No other personal papers, books, or materials are allowed during the exam; however, scratch paper and a pen/pencil will be provided.

A score of at least 60% on both sections of the exam is necessary to earn the CCRA designation. Exam results will be sent 6 weeks following the exam date. All grading is considered final without appeal and numerical scores are never released.
