2. Retrieve Your Login Details

Before launching the Secure Browser:

  • Retrieve your confirmation number, which can be found in your booking confirmation email. Your password is the first 4 characters of your surname, case sensitive.
  • Write them down or store them somewhere you can access without using your computer.
Once the browser launches, your system will be locked, and you will be unable to access your email or other applications.
  • Your test time in the confirmation email is shown in your local time zone. When logging in, the platform will display the time in UTC by default, which is standard and does not reflect any change to your test schedule.

3. Setup Your System

  • Download and install the latest version of the Secure Browser (OET’s Speaking Platform) from one of the links below.

  • Disable VPNs, add exceptions to firewalls and antivirus.

    Important note for Mac users

If you are using a Mac, you must enable screen sharing for the Secure Browser before your test. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    1. Open your Mac, open System preferences (or System settings on macOS Ventura and later).
    2. Go to security and privacy
    3. Select the Privacy tab
    4. From the left-hand menu, click screen recording
    5. Find and tick the checkbox for the secure browser application
    6. If the option is greyed out, click the lock icon (bottom left) and enter your mac password
    7. Restart the secure browser application to apply the changes

Important note for Mac Users:

If you receive the below error message after installing the secure browser, this may be due to the ARDAgent.app process running on your Mac:

Unable to Launch the Secure Browser. Please Contact the admin.

Please follow the steps to resolve this issue:
Step 1: Kill ARDAgent Process
  1. Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor).
  2. Search for ARDAgent.app in the list of processes.
  3. Select it and click Quit (or Force Quit if needed).
  4. If the ARDAgent process is still showing even after quitting, please uninstall ARDAgent.app from your system.
Step 2: Disable Remote Management
  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences) on your Mac.
  2. Go to Sharing.
  3. Look for Remote Management in the list on the left-hand side.
  4. If Remote Management is enabled (checked), uncheck it to disable it completely.
  5. Close the settings window.
Step 3 (Optional Advanced Step): Ensure ARDAgent is Fully Disabled
  • Open Terminal and run the command:

    sudo launchctl bootout system
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist

  • To verify ARDAgent is disabled, run:

    ps aux | grep ARDAgent

If no results show (other than the grep command itself), ARDAgent is no longer running.

Step 4: Relaunch Secure Browser

Once the above steps are complete, relaunch the Secure Browser and try again.
