Skilled Trades Ontario Certification Exams via Prometric Canada Testing Services
Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) is proud to offer industry-recognized certification exams through our trusted testing partner, Prometric Canada Testing Services. Our streamlined online exam scheduling and computer-based delivery platform makes it easier for Ontario’s skilled trades professionals to take the next step in their careers and earn their Certificate of Qualification.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ Your Personal Information and the Exam Process
As you navigate through the scheduling pages, you will encounter the default Personal Data Privacy Disclosure & Consent page, which is used across all organizations and candidates within the broader Prometric ecosystem. Please note that any references to the handling of personal information can be disregarded and does not pertain to clients of STO. However, to proceed with booking and writing the exam, you will still be required to agree to the default consent and confirmation checkboxes. STO has taken significant steps to ensure that no personal information is disclosed within the Prometric Canada Testing Services exam delivery model. Throughout the scheduling and exam administration process, STO has worked closely with Prometric Canada Testing Services to minimize data collection and restrict the sharing of any personally identifiable information.

Scheduling Your Exam
Step 1: Complete your registration and pay the required exam fee to STO (if applicable). Once you receive your Authorization to Test Letter with your Eligibility ID from STO, you can book your exam through this Prometric Canada Testing Services platform (step 2).
Step 2: At the top of this page, click Locate or Schedule on the left to choose your preferred exam date, time, and testing location at a certified Prometric Canada Testing Services centre. You will need your Eligibility ID from STO to complete this process.
Step 3: Ensure you print your “receipt” on the final confirmation page for your records.
Exam Day Checklist
To help ensure a smooth testing experience, please review the following checklist before arriving at the testing centre:
Authorization to Test Letter:
- You MUST bring a printed copy of your Authorization to Test Letter and present it to the proctor on exam day. Given the security controls of the testing centres, electronic copies are not accepted.
Identification:
- Bring one original, current (not expired) form of photo identification with signature. Acceptable forms include:
- Passport
- Driver’s License
- Citizenship Card
- Provincial Photo ID card
- Certificate of Indian Status
- Your ID must be valid and display the exact first and last name used during registration. Inconsistencies will result in denial of entry.
Name Verification:
- Ensure that the name on your Authorization to Test Letter exactly matches the names on your ID. If you suspect any discrepancies, contact STO before your exam.
Personal Belongings:
- Leave all non-essential items at home.
- Store personal items (cell phone, food, beverages, pens, wallets, keys, jackets, etc.) in the assigned locker. Note that you will not have access to these items during testing or unscheduled breaks.
- Double-check your pockets to confirm they are empty prior to signing in.
Testing Centre Protocol:
At our testing centres, we enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy for any form of cheating, disruptive behaviour, or disrespect towards staff and fellow examinees. Violations may result in immediate disqualification and further disciplinary actions.
To ensure a positive testing experience for everyone, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Comply with all directions provided by the test administrator and adhere to the testing centre rules.
- If you encounter any issues with testing conditions, notify the test administrator immediately.
- If your issue is not resolved on-site, submit your concerns in writing to STO within five business days after your exam.
- Arrange your transportation or notify a contact person after your test session. Remember, electronic devices (including cell phones) are not permitted at any time during the exam session or inside the testing centre.
