The Nurse Practitioners Certification Board national certification examinations are competency-based examinations for nurse practitioners to reflect their knowledge and expertise in the role and population area of education.
The following NPCB examinations are offered at Prometric locations:
- Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination (AGNP)
- Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination (FNP)
- Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination (ENP)
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination (PMHNP)

The NPCB application process is an online process. Qualified candidates will be authorized to sit for an examination after completion of all didactic and clinical coursework required in the nurse practitioner portion of their program. When a candidate’s application is approved, NPCB will send an eligibility-to-test email notification from certification@aanpcert.org to the candidate. Once this email is sent, the candidate will have a 120-day window to take the examination. No exams can be scheduled until the candidate is authorized to test.
