Yes! Candidates who prefer to self-teach the course content can purchase the training manual and register for an exam themselves.
To register to take an exam at a Prometric testing center the candidate needs to call 1.800.624.2736 to register, make payment and receive an eligibility number. The following day you’ll be able to call and schedule the exam with a Prometric representative or go online to schedule the exam.
The CPFM training materials are used for classroom-based, traditional instructor-led training, or the candidate may opt to utilize the materials in a self-study type environment. The Prometric website offers an easy way to find a training facility or to order materials for self-study.

The training materials that are used are referenced to the most current food code, and are therefore relevant and timely. Prometric provides and recommends the training manual produced by our Food Safety partner, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
Taking either a paper and pencil version or an Internet-based test in a proctored environment costs $28. If the exam is taken in a Prometric testing center the cost is $48. For paper and pencil and proctored Internet-based exams, candidates need to register through their training organization, local health department or a training company with certified Prometric proctors.
Prometric doesn’t determine how often exams are held. You can take the exam in any proctored environment – either in paper format, online or at a secure test center. Exams delivered in either a proctored Internet-based testing or a proctored paper and pencil environment are held dependent upon when an organization, health department or training company with approved Prometric proctors has them scheduled.
When taking the exam at a testing center or in an Internet-based testing environment, the candidate will receive the results (score report) immediately upon completion. The license (wall certificate) and wallet card will be mailed within 10 days.
If the exams are delivered by paper and pencil they must be shipped for scoring which will take longer. The license (wall certificate) and wallet card will be shipped within five business days from the time Prometric receives the exams from proctors.
