A proctor is someone who oversees an exam taking place. In order to be a proctor, you need to apply and become certified through Prometric. A proctor does not necessarily teach any type of course related to the exam, although the proctor can.
A trainer is someone who teaches a course that is intended to educate and prepare someone to take an exam. A trainer cannot administer a Prometric food manager exam unless he/she has passed the proctor competency exam and is an active Prometric food safety proctor.
Prometric Certified Professional Food Manager Exam:
If you work for a company or organization that has requested you to become a Prometric proctor, please check with your company/organization to see if it has an existing Prometric account. Your company or organization may have specific instructions for you regarding becoming a proctor.

After your application has been reviewed by our team, you will be asked to take the proctor competency exam. Upon passing the exam, your Prometric proctor credentials will be sent to you via email.
Prometric Certified Professional Food Manager:
Prometric neither produces nor delivers training. However, it provides an exam outline to enable independent trainers to develop and tailor their own training programs, if desired. Additionally, Prometric is a licensed distributor of NEHA training materials. To purchase NEHA training materials, please call 1-800-624-2736.
Prometric has partnerships with several trusted training organizations. If you wish to become a trainer for the food manager exam, please contact one of our partners directly.

Though Prometric does not require training for the food manager exam, some local jurisdictions require training hours before the exam in order to receive certification. Please check with your local jurisdiction for training requirements.
Any trainer using Prometric’s exam cannot advertise any guarantee of passing. If you see a trainer offering any such guarantee, please notify Prometric by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.

For internet-based exam vouchers, please call 1-800-624-2736. Exam vouchers need to be ordered 48 business hours before exam administration.
Exams should be ordered at least 10 business days prior to your administration date. Exams are shipped via UPS. If exams are needed sooner, the proctor may request expedited shipping for a fee.
For online vouchers, please allow 48 business hours.
Paper-based exams must be shipped within 2 days after the administration date. Exams must be sent back to Prometric via a traceable method such as UPS, USPS (with tracking), or FedEx. Proctors should retain tracking numbers and be ready to give them to Prometric should any shipping issues arise.

When returning the exams to Prometric for grading, please be sure to include:
For internet-based testing, the candidate will receive a score report with their results immediately upon completion. If they passed, a certificate will be mailed within 10 business days.
For paper-based testing, once Prometric receives the exams, it takes approximately 10 business days for processing and scoring. Please note that processing times are dependent upon the timeliness of the proctor and their delivery of all the materials listed above.
For paper based testing (PBT), the score reports and certificates are mailed according to the instructions the Proctor provided on their Exam Return Form. Proctors should clearly designate how the results/certificates should be sent. If no clear designation, the certificates will be sent directly to the candidates.
For internet-based testing (IBT), the candidates can view their preliminary results after completing the exam. Official results (certificate or failing score report) will be mailed directly to the address provided in the candidate’s TCNET profile. Proctors must ensure that the address is completely filled (include apartment number/suite number). Proctors do not automatically receive a score report. There are a total of 80 questions on the CFPM examination.
Yes, candidates must complete the exam within 2 hours unless they have Prometric-approved testing accommodations. If your candidate requires testing accommodation, please have them complete the accommodations request packet.
For all states except for South Dakota, a student must receive a minimum score of 70% in order to achieve certification. For candidates wishing to work as a food manager in South Dakota, a minimum score of 75% is needed to achieve certification.
The Prometric CPFM exam is ANSI-accredited and is 100% comparable to the other ANSI-accredited food manger exams.
Yes, as long as your local or state health officials recognize ANSI-accredited food manager exams, the Prometric exam will meet the requirements.

Candidates are to register and create an account on TCNET themselves. It is preferred that candidates create their TCNET account in front of the proctor on the day they take the exam, so that the proctor is able to check that the candidate is registering with the name that is on their state-issued ID.
Voucher issues are often due to attempting to use an expired or previously used voucher. If you are having issues, please check your voucher’s history and expiration date. Additionally, make sure there are no extra spaces before or after your voucher code, as this can cause the voucher to not work. :
