Prometric is excited to announce that we will be launching an updated Knowledge/Written Competency Exam for the New York State Department of Health Residential Health Care Facility Nurse Aide Certification and Registry Program on 7/9/2012. The new exam will be delivered on computers through our secure Internet Based Testing (IBT) System at both In-Facility Testing (IFT) and Regional Testing Site (RTS) locations throughout the state. The IBT delivery method has many advantages over the current Paper Based Testing model, including immediate results, access to online score reporting and a quicker path onto the NYS Registry for qualified candidates. It has proven to be extremely easy to use for similar exams in other states, and we expect the same for NY's candidates.
All RTS locations will use computers for delivering the exams through the IBT System effective 7/9/2012, and IFT sites are strongly encouraged to start using the IBT then as well. Prometric will be recruiting RTS locations in all areas throughout the state to give every candidate an opportunity to take the exam in the IBT system. Any current RTS that wants to remain a regional test site or any newly recruited site will need to purchase the computer equipment and have it installed and ready to deliver exams before the 7/9/2012 deadline or they cannot be an RTS for the initial launch. IFT sites that want to take advantage of this opportunity in July will also need to purchase the necessary computer equipment and have it installed before 7/9/2012. For those IFT sites that may have short-term budget constraints and/or cannot acquire computers for testing by July, the paper version of the exam will continue to be available until 12/31/2012. Effective 1/1/2013, all exams will be administered via our Internet Based Test System and computers/internet access will be required in order to remain an approved IFT.
