Thomson Prometric and The Open Group Announce Their Collaboration
Baltimore, MD – May 24, 2006 - Thomson Prometric, the global leader in testing and assessment services, and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), and The Open Group today announced that Thomson Prometric will administer The Open Group’s newest IT exam certifying users on open standards and interoperability facility. As a result of the arrangement with Thomson Prometric, the exam will be offered for the first time in a computer-based format and will be available in Thomson Prometric testing centers throughout the world.
The Open Group is a consortium that advocates for access to information for everyone by promoting open standards and global interoperability for computer software and IT systems, and providing training to interested IT professionals. Its TOGAF 8 certification requires candidates to demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities related to working in the open standards environment.
Given its history of success in administering IT certification programs, Thomson Prometric is well suited for a collaboration with The Open Group. The Open Group cited Thomson Prometric’s experience in global delivery of certification exams and other testing solutions as the primary reason that led to the organization’s decision to pursue the contract.
“We wanted to work with the testing industry’s leader to more broadly establish our certification programs as the de facto method for assuring skills and experience in the IT architecture community,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group. “Our candidates will enjoy the added convenience and testing flexibility that only Thomson Prometric can offer, while we simultaneously accelerate our goal of global expansion.”
“Helping clients like The Open Group establish and expand certification programs is a key part of our services to our IT clients,” said Alex Gray, executive director, Corporate/IT Market, Thomson Prometric. “We are gratified by the confidence The Open Group has placed in us and we look forward to helping them achieve their goals for their new certification program.”
