Prometric and Lunghwa University Join Forces to Deliver Industry Certifications to Students
Baltimore, Md. and Kueishan Taoyuan, Taiwan – December 4, 2003 – Prometric, a part of The Thomson Corporation (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC), the global leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment services, today announced that Lunghwa University of Science & Technology, a leading institution of higher education in Taiwan, is opening a Prometric testing center to bring information technology (IT) assessment and certification testing to Taiwan.
Prometric delivers standardized tests for 300 clients, in 26 languages, over the Web or through a global network of testing centers in 134 countries. The Lunghwa University Prometric testing center will be onsite and provide its students with access to IT certification and assessment exams including CompTIA, Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco accreditations.
The university recognizes the benefits of achieving certification. Hiring certified employees increases customer satisfaction, simplifies recruiting and hiring processes, lowers training costs and provides measurable competency standards. The opening of the Prometric testing center is the first step in making the opportunity convenient for its students. The university plans to require that all students successfully achieve at least one certification before graduating.
“The opening of the Lunghwa University Prometric testing center marks a momentous occasion for the advancement of technology learning in Taiwan,” said Ramesh Nava, Prometric vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific. “It is our intention that our partnership aids in fostering this open learning environment by bringing the convenience of certification to Lunghwa and the greater community of Taiwan.”
Mrs. Su-Chuan Chen and Mr. Fa-ming Sun, the “Father of Chinese Cables” founded the university in 1967. The academic institution was first established as a technical junior college to train students who had science and technology skill potential. Today the university offers higher learning programs in thirteen departments including computer information, multimedia, game science, network and mechanical engineering, business and management. Lunghwa University has graduated nearly 30,000 professionals.
The Lunghwa University Prometric testing center opened November 17, 2003. Test takers can register for their certification exams at www.Prometric.com.
