Thomson Prometric and the Korean Language Proficiency Test Association Announce Alliance
BALTIMORE, MD. JULY 12, 2004 - Thomson PROMETRIC, THE GLOBAL LEADER IN TECHNOLOGY-ENABLED TESTING AND ASSESSMENT SERVICES, and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced its five-year agreement with the Korean Language Proficiency Test Co. Ltd. (KLPT) to deliver the KLPT language exams beginning July 12, 2004 worldwide.
The KLPT is a nonprofit organization approved by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Justice as the sole agency managing Korean language proficiency testing for non-native workers seeking employment in Korea. Two different exams are available: the KLPT and the Basic KLPT. Each marks the standard skill requirement for command of the language in carrying out specific operations for those who want to work for Korean companies.
"We're very pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with the KLPT," said Alison Indrisano, Thomson Prometric senior vice president of Global Operations. "Previously, their exams were only delivered in 30 countries once a year. With Thomson Prometric's global testing center network, the exams will be available around the world all year. This collaboration is a huge win for the international language market."
"KLPT chose to only partner with Thomson Prometric for test delivery because of its high security, global channel reach and convenience, and strong experience and brand," said Jin Ho Lee, President/Executive Committee. "This is a good opportunity for us to teach Korean and reach out to more people around the world. We believe the KLPT program will be just as strong as the TOEFL exam."
