Thomson Prometric Signs Exclusive International MCAT Contract 


Baltimore, Md. – April 13, 2004 – Thomson Prometric, the global leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment services and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced their agreement with the Association of American Medical Colleges to convert the paper and pencil International Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) to a computer-based format, and deliver the test through the Thomson Prometric Global Testing Center Network for the next two years. 

The Association requested potential vendors develop and deliver the pilot computer-based International MCAT for review.  Based on the delivery of the International MCAT pilot, the Association chose Thomson Prometric based on its unparalleled global presence, established worldwide channel and experience in delivering global computer-based programs. 

"We were impressed with Thomson Prometric's flexibility and attention to detail," said Ellen Julian, vice president of MCAT.  "We are looking forward to working with Thomson Prometric to provide all of MCAT's International computer-based tests for the next two years."

The computer-based exam will offer greater test taking flexibility and accessibility.  The security of the Thomson Prometric Global Testing Center Network also adds to the validity of the prestigious exam for medical school prospects – and helps ensure only the qualified are authorized toward practicing medicine.

The International MCAT will be available in the cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, London, Beirut, Lebanon, New Delhi, Bangalore, Frankfurt and Johannesburg.
