Thomson Prometric and Green Building Council of Australia Form Agreement to Certify Environmental Safe Building and Protection
United States Green Building Council Accreditation Continues Steady Growth
Baltimore, Md. – March 15, 2004 – Thomson Prometric, the global leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment services and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced their agreement with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to deliver the GBCA's computer-based accreditation, the Green Star Accredited Professional exam, through the Thomson Prometric Testing Center Network.
The GBCA needed increased accessibility for its accreditation program to support the program's growing demand. Those who work in the green building industry need to certify their skill set conveniently in order to confirm that they are eligible and qualified to work, as builders, for the protection of the Australian environment. These individuals include construction consultants, engineers and contractors.
Delivering the computer-based Green Star Accredited Professional exam through the Thomson Prometric Australian Testing Center Network gives the Council an unprecedented convenience, efficiency and an advanced learning measurement system for its certification candidates. On December 29, 2003, the Green Star Accredited Professional exam went live in Australian Thomson Prometric testing centers.
Thomson Prometric and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) have collaborated since October 2000. The mission of the USGBC is to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. USGBC delivers its certification program, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), through the United States Thomson Prometric Testing Center Network. In 2003, the two organizations expanded its relationship. Thomson Prometric rebuilt the certification, through its test development and psychometric processes, to further the exam's validity and reliability in aiding in the creation of environmentally sound buildings. And the USGBC will begin using Thomson Prometric's comprehensive data management solution for seamless data collection, tracking and reporting abilities. LEED forecasts estimate 30 percent growth and four thousand new green building certified professionals in 2004.
"Our experience and proud history of developing and implementing computer-based assessment and testing programs is why Thomson Prometric is the global industry leader," said Ramesh Nava, Thomson Prometric vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific. "The GBCA learning solution is no different; similar robust and reliable measurement solutions are the future of the green building industry."
