Consumer Electronics Association Signs Exclusive Renewal with Prometric
Baltimore, MD., September 13, 2007 – Prometric, the global leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment services, today announced that the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has renewed its contract with Prometric for the exclusive global delivery of its mobile electronics certification exams and results processing. The Mobile Electronics Certified Professional program (MECP) is offered worldwide at over 3,000 Prometric testing centers via computer-based testing or in pre-approved, proctored environments on the Web.
The MECP program consists of five exams, each which tests a different knowledge level and skill set of in-vehicle technology installers; tests range from “basic installer test,” which proves proficiency in basic in-vehicle audio and video installation technique, to “master installer test,” which requires three years experience in addition to knowledge of advanced electrical theory, advanced mobile audio and video systems, security systems and advanced installation knowledge and technique. Since the early 90s, over 20,000 installers have been certified, with more than 6,000 people holding current certificates.
“The MECP is the only industry-supported, nationally recognized certification program for in-vehicle technology installers and sales staff, making consumers more likely to put their trust in business owners and technicians who carry this certification distinction,” said Nathan M. Ridnouer, Director, Member Programs Strategy & Member Care at CEA. “When we computerized the exam a few years ago we needed an experienced service provider in the testing and certification sector, and Prometric looked to be a good match. The most important piece of our partnership is its large number of testing locations.”
“Consumers feel that they are in ‘good hands’ when they turn to someone who holds this certification because it demonstrates that the professional can provide true value to consumers by staying up to speed on the newest techniques and technologies,” said Ray Kelly, Senior Vice President, Client Services, Sales & Marketing at Prometric. “According to the CEA, the global market for consumer electronics is nearly $600 billion U.S. in retail. The CEA’s reliance on Prometric as a testing partner guarantees consumer electronics professionals wide access to locations where they can become qualified to support this global industry.”
