IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING EXEMPTION FOR AGE:

April 8, 2011 NC DOI Notice: CE Exemption Eliminated

As of January 1, 2012, waiver from insurance CE will only be available for military and medical reasons (see notice above).  Agents who may have qualified for the AGE exemption on or before December 31, 2011 must have applied for the exemption on or before December 31, 2011

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING REINSTATEMENT OF EXPIRED LICENSE
Reinstatement of License. If your license expired for failing to meet your continuing education requirements, your license may be reinstated by completing the continuing education requirements within four months after the end of your compliance year and paying a reinstatement fee of $105.00. Special Notice for Ethics & Flood Requirements Due December 31, 2009

Important Notice regarding change from SSN to NPN

Points to emphasize at this time are:

  • The following items must be directed to the North Carolina Department of Insurance:
    • Corrections to Date of Birth
    • Corrections to License Status
    • Name Changes
    • Credits earned before January 1, 2008
    • Carryover credits from 2007 to be applied to 2008. Prometric is not empowered to change carryover credits unless directed to do so by the Department.
  • As part of Prometric's required services, a warning notice will be sent to licensees who are not yet compliant approximately 120 days before their due date and again around 45 days from their due date. If you are compliant, then a notice will not be sent.
  • All individuals who hold a major line of authority license and adjusters will be required to complete three hours of an ethics training/CE within two years of January 1, 2008 and every two years thereafter.
  • Individuals holding a Property, Personal Lines or adjuster license will also be required to complete three hours of flood insurance training/CE within two years of January 1, 2008 and every four years thereafter. There are no exceptions from these mandatory course requirements.

Effective October 1, 2010, only those licensees who are unable to comply with continuing education requirements due to military service or long-term medical disability may request a waiver for continuing education requirements. Individuals who, prior to October 1, 2010, had been granted an "experience" exemption from continuing education requirements for age (65 or older) and years of licensure (continuously licensed in at least one line of insurance for 25 years or more) will continue to be exempt from the general CE requirements. The mandatory flood and/or ethics requirements for these individuals will still apply.
